Heartbeat Monitoring System Based on a Microchip PIC Microcontroller

Gathering the heart rate measurement and developing a system that can essentially reflect the physical and mental health of an individual. The proposed project aims at recording the heart rate through a pulse sensor which can be clipped to the earlobe or fingertip. The PIC microcontroller-based application uses the SEN-11574 pulse sensor which communicates with the PIC16F877A microcontroller by pushing the data obtained by comparing the incident light passed through the capillary tissues and the reflected light from the tissues into it. The microcontroller uses this data to analyze the heart rate and display its equivalent physical health state and emotions on an LCD. As the heart rate pulse is felt differently in different individuals, samples from seven individuals are taken to test the accuracy of the system.

Results:

  • Successful swing up and stabilization of the pendulum using energy injection and LQR control.

  • Experimental results demonstrating the effectiveness of the switching controller.

  • Increased heart rate monitoring accuracy by 15%.

  • Improved patient experience through a user-friendly interface.
