A message from my Dad

Do you often get angry at people who do not behave the right way, especially when they are someone close to you?

Lately, I have been feeling the same way.

I am usually a very cool person, but these days I find it extremely difficult to keep my cool with some people.

Yesterday, while I was talking to my dad on a video call, I asked him, "Dad, I have been losing my cool lately with certain people, and I do not like myself that way. You are always so cool and loving; how do you maintain that?"

His words actually made me sleep and wake up in peace today. He said, "Next time, if you ever come across someone who behaves in a way that you do not like, try to feel bad for them instead. You should always be like Mercury: stay cool and composed no matter what’s going on around you. When people act out of line, try to feel bad for them instead of losing your temper. Understand that their behavior might come from a place of inexperience or lack of guidance. Be there to help them if they come to you, but don’t let their actions disrupt your inner peace. Just like mercury, keep your stability and shine through, reflecting empathy and understanding."

So cool, right?! I think feeling bad is better than feeling angry. Anger makes you impulsive and it could break some precious relationships. Pausing for a while and feeling bad for them will give room for empathy.

Now that I know his secret, I'm going to steal it! But I wonder how he could think of such a brilliant yet simple solution for such a complex problem.

He is 8,166 miles away from me, and I miss talking to him for hours about life, morals, goals, God, and so on, every single day.
